Hey Friends!
It has been a while since I sat down to write a newsletter. I am currently getting toasty next to my wood stove, sneaking in a few minutes to write to you before my kids wake from their sleepy slumber and the joyful chaos of the day begins.
Fall Updates:
The Autumn season kicked off with attending the Homesteaders of America conference. Truly grateful for that opportunity and loved getting to meet so many of you. As wonderful as it is to connect with others online, there is nothing quite like getting to meet with other like-minded folks in person.
Fall on the Farm is a closing chapter. With the harvest over, we start entering a season of rest in preparation for the beauty and new life that awaits. Before I know it lambs will be bounding about and buds beginning to bloom.
I have learned to enjoy each season as they come. Don’t get me wrong, the daylight hours getting shorter is not my favorite, but I have learned to embrace it and try to slow down alongside the season. I take delight in warming by the woodstove and diving into those books that have been collecting dust on my shelf all summer long, just waiting to be read, as well as getting to all those half-finished fiber art projects that have also been lying around long before the heat of the summer, just waiting to be finished.

We had an exciting addition to the flock in November! Mabel and Fern are the beginning of our dairy sheep adventures. These beautiful ewes are half East Friesian and half Border Leicester. It is amazing just how fast they have warmed up to us.
My daughter has already halter trained them and my oldest son wants to help build the milking stanchion. My kids are such sweet blessings and a huge help around the farm. When I say this is a family farm, I mean it. There is no way I could do it all, and I am so thankful my husband and kids are right there alongside me every step of the way.

Things I am currently loving: • This time of year I love to sit by the fire and read shepherd memoirs. I am still perusing which memoirs I will be diving into this year, but my two favorites from last year are The Sheep Stell by Janet White and Shepherdess: Notes from the Field by Joan Jarvis Ellison. • Tis' the season for baking! Chocolate chip cookies are my favorite dessert and I have been enjoying my fair share of them. My oldest son loves to bake and he has been using the Brooki Bakehouse recipe . They are scrumptious! • The cold is here and chore time requires layers. My go-to beanie is my Elderflower Hat. A lot of the time my hair is thrown up into a bun to keep it out of the way, the Elderflower hat is designed with an opening at the top to pull your ponytail or messy bun through. Want to knit your own? You can check out the pattern here: Elderflower Knit Pattern.
Until next time friends,
